Scholarship/Leadership Expectations of Active Members and Membership Candidates
Members are asked to collect an academic progress report from each of their professors each semester. This is to help members be sure they are doing well in classes and become aware if they need some help in a class. The scholarship chair is available to help with tutoring, finding a tutor, using the academic success center, and most academic problems.
Members are also asked to fill out weekly study log to be sure they are studying constructively. These will be completed every week, the scholarship chair will initial each weeks log to be sure they are completed. Members will need to complete a certain number of study hours according to cumulative GPA as follows:
3.5 – 4.0 = 2 hours per week
3.0 – 3.49 = 3 hours per week
2.5 – 2.99= 4 hours per week
2.0 – 2.49 = 5 hours per week
Study hours include anytime working on academic material and membership candidates can include Sigma Alpha material. I would like members to log all hours not just required hours so we can find your ideal study environment.
Members are encouraged to participate in our Scholar of the week program. Every week I would like to know if a member has done well in a class, this may include but is not limited to: good grade on a test, quiz, or assignment. Scholar of the week is determined by the scholarship chair under their assessment of difficulty of class and assignment (highest grade on most difficult task will receive the award). Please email me a short paragraph as to the accomplishment and I will announce the weekly nominees and winner at each meeting. There will also be a M.C. Scholar of the Week during our m.c. study portion of each semester, this will be decided by the scholarship chair and the 2nd vice president.
For all current members the files for the academic progress reports and the study logs can be found under the files link after logging into the member only section.
Scholarships
Sigma Alpha also offers a scholarship each year donated by our advisor Gerald 'Doc' Matteson which varies from $450 to $600. Any active member can apply for this scholarship as long as they have one remaining full semester. We greatly appreciate this gift that has been donated to the ladies of Sigma Alpha - Beta Zeta. |
